School Resource Officers
Cortland Police has two officers assigned to Lakeview Schools as School Resource Officers (SRO's). Both officers are veterans of the department and SRO Smith has been assigned to the schools since 2006 while SRO Rice has been assigned to the schools beginning the 2018-2019 school year. Both officers have received advanced traning and are certified to be school resource officers. The officers maintain a presence in the school to enhance security while also providing valuable resources to the students, teachers, and administration. We are fortunate to have a good relationship with Lakeview Local Schools which has allowed the SRO program to be successful. While in the schools the officers will conduct safety checks, participate in safety drills or simply walk the halls and get to know the students. This is also important to help develop positive relationships with the students so they feel comfortable talking to the police if they need. If you would like to know more about our SRO's feel free to contact them. SRO Smith can be contacted here. SRO Rice can be contacted here. Both officers rotate throughout the Lakeview High School and the Lakeview pre-k through 8 building. During summer months or when school is on break the SRO'sconduct patrols and answer calls for service also.
