Zoning Change Request
Please note: This process can take more than 3 months to complete from the time the application is submitted with all appropriate paperwork until it is approved by Cortland City Council.
Procedure for a zone change:
- Submit a Zone Change Application, a current Trumbull County Tax Map, survey description of area to be changed if not entire parcel, and a list of adjoining property owners across and contiguous to the property in question.
- A filing fee of $200 must be paid at the time the application is submitted.
- The Planning & Zoning Commission secretary will set date for a public hearing to be placed on the agenda, at least a thirty (30) day notice. The Commission meets the 2nd Monday each month at 7:00 p.m. The principal or legal counsel needs to be present at the meeting to review the plans.
- The Planning & Zoning Commission secretary will send copies to Planning & Zoning Commission members, property owner, and abutting and contiguous property owners of the property in question.
- Once the zone change is approved by the Planning & Zoning Commission, a recommendation is sent to Cortland City Council.
- The Clerk of Council will set a date for a public hearing to be placed on the City Council agenda, at least twenty (20) day notice. Council meets every 1st and 3rd Monday each month at 7:00 p.m. The principal or legal counsel needs to be present at the meeting.
- The Clerk of Council will send copies to Cortland City Council, property owner, and abutting and contiguous property owners of the property in question.
- Once the zone change is approved by City Council, the request is recorded and final.
