Community
The city of Cortland is a quaint community - one that is moving ahead while still maintaining the small town charm that keeps us unique. We are known for our unique specialty shops and a variety of seasonal community events and activities. Because of our location, retail and light industry is encouraged as we continue to expand. The city also has numerous professional services available for individual needs.
The city has parks featuring playgrounds, baseball and soccer fields, tennis, pickleball, volleyball and basketball courts, and a skate board park. In 2016, the city saw an addition of a splash pad made possible through generous donations from area businesses, individuals and service organizations and community fundraisers. Also, in 2016, we opened a sled hill at Eastlake Metropark. The city is also adjacent to Mosquito Reservoir and State Park. Water recreation, hiking, camping and picnicking attract visitors to Mosquito Lake.
A new K thru 8 Lakeview School opened in 2018 and uses a 21st century model of educational delivery. Lakeview High School was ranked one of America’s Top High Schools in 2016 by Newsweek and given a silver ranking from U.S. News and World Report in 2014. The Cortland Branch of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library is located in the very next block.
Cortland with its population of over 7,000 people is located in the heart of Trumbull County. State highways 5 and 46 are both accessible through the city. We are also a short distance from Interstate 80 via State Route 11 and located about an hour from Akron, Cleveland and Pittsburgh. Youngstown Regional Airport is less than 10 minutes from the city.
