PARKS & RECREATION BOARD JUNE 10, 2013
The Parks & Recreation Board met on Monday, June 10, 2013 at 5:30 p.m. at the City Administration Building, 400 N. High St., Cortland, Ohio. In attendance were the following board members: Dave Christner, Shane Mealy, and Katie Watson. Also present were Mayor Curt Moll, Don Wittman, Zach Svette – Trumbull County Metroparks and Bill Burnham - LAC.
Shane Mealy made a motion to approve minutes from the April 8, 2013 regular meeting, seconded by Katie Watson. ALL AYES, MOTION APPROVED.
Shane Mealy made a motion to approve minutes from the May 13, 2013 walk-through of the parks, seconded by Katie Watson. ALL AYES, MOTION APPROVED.
Dugouts at Pearl
Bill Burnham – LAC received 4 quotes for dugouts and storage units at Pearl Park. The lowest quote was Lauer & Horvat with a quote of $8,200.00 (material and labor) and it is LAC’s recommendation to accept this quote. Shane Mealy made a motion for the City to pay $4,100.00 to match LAC funds towards the dugouts at Pearl Park, seconded by Katie Watson. ALL AYES, MOTION APPROVED.
The bid process has been completed and the award for the parking lot is being awarded to Miller-Yount Paving. Zach expects construction to begin the end of July. After it has been completed it will be okay to use for small dump trucks to bring in dirt.
Joint agreement between TCMP and City needs to be reviewed to see what steps need to be taken to revitalize the cooperative effort.
Current hill has elevation drop of 20 to 30 feet – Goal is 80’.
State is still maintaining Turkey Run Trail. Zach has plans to connect sledding area to the trail.
There is a concern that soccer will be losing parking due to losing ability to park at the old school. Mayor suggested LOSA contact Denman’s to see if Denman’s parking lot and field could be used.
Discussion on the Master Plan – Remove swings facing North/South, getting rid of some equipment and moving equipment closest to the road. Goal is to get to a 100’ x 100’ area. Estimate for 12” of ground cover for this area is 400 cubic yards. Shane Mealy made a motion for the city to purchase up to $7,500 of playground fiber for Pearl Park, seconded by Katie Watson. ALL AYES, MOTION APPROVED.
The city will order 100 cubic yards of playground fiber for the play area. Preference for the “diggers” to be removed first.
Shane Mealy made a motion for the city to purchase two benches for the pickleball courts, seconded by Dave Christner. ALL AYES, MOTION APPROVED.
The July meeting of the Parks Board is cancelled. The next meeting will be in August.
