PARKS & RECREATION BOARD                       October 10, 2011

The Parks & Recreation Board met on Monday, October 10, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. at the City Administration Building, 400 N. High St., Cortland, Ohio.  In attendance were the following board members:  Dave Christner, Mike Norton, James Gibson and John Picuri; absent was Frank Daughtery. Also present were Mayor Curt Moll and Service Director Don Wittman.

Mike Norton  made a motion to approve minutes from the September 12, 2011 meeting seconded by John Picuri.   All Ayes.   MOTION APPROVED.

Willow Park

  • Dave Christner inquired about turning the lights and water off for winter.
  • Mayor Moll would like to wait until November.

Pearl Park

  • John Picuri met with both LOSA and LAC.  Both organizations are still very interested in building storage/concession shed and restrooms.  They are in the process of making a plan and layout of the building.  Parking is still an issue. Both parking lots are very full.
  • Mayor Moll suggested using Cortland Hardwood for parking.  It would be easy to extend the parking lot.
  • Dave Christner asked if the building was a pole barn or split box. John Picuri thought it was a split box.
  • Dave Christner inquired if we could set up as a Rotary project and get qualified volunteers.  Randy Baker and Ed Jacubik to donate.
  • City would supply water and sewer.  Valley Electric will donate.
  • John Picuri felt we should wait for LOSA and LAC to come back to us with their plan before moving forward. These organizations are also interested in building a dugout. Personally feels the swing sets should be moved.
  • Mike Norton also agreed that we need to wait for input from LOSA & LAC.
  • Dave Christner inquired who is starting the list.
  • Don Wittman stated that we will do the work once we get the list.  We need a plan and a sense of direction however, unlike Willow Park.
  • Mayor Moll has some concerns as to what else are we going to do at the park.
  • John Picuri would like to go out as a group.
  • Dave Christner questioned the plans and time constraint. Within a year we need to head towards a grant.
  • Application is generic, should only need tweaked from Willow Park.
  • Area needs leveled and blacktopped.
  • Playground should stay.  Families use quite a bit during soccer games.

Eastlake Park

  • Don Wittman sent survey to ODOT.

  • Gazebo Park Mayor Moll spoke with Tom Andrews.  The department won’t be able to do anything major this fall because of time constraints.  Don’t expect anything this fall, maybe next spring.

  • Christmas Decorations – Dave Christner asked about the snowflakes. Plan to utilize Main Lite.  Dave Christner will contact Flo Hutton.

John Picuri made a motion to adjourn, seconded by James Gibson. All Ayes.
